Flashback PC needs a 12MHz 286 and a VGA card to run. It will be better with a 386sx16.
The game should be run on DOS, not windows.
For windows 95 or 98, shutdown to MSDOS mode before running the game.
It seems to work quite well on windows XP (full screen).
The original version of the game was on two 3"1/2 diskettes.
A new version with newer cinematics scenes has been released on a CD, but I have no informations about that new version.
You can download the PC playable demo of the game (930 Kb).
To install the demo, first unzip the file on a blank 1,44 Mb disk (pkunzip
-d fbdemofr).
You can also download an Amiga demo, in dms(595
Kb) or lha(346 Kb) format. (I have no Amiga, so I
won't be able to answer your questions).
Unfortunatly, I don't know if the retail version of this game is available somewhere. If you know a place, I'll be glad to add the address there.
You can usually find it on ebay.
Question from Aaron : I have FlashBack on CDRom. I played the game on Genesis and found in a bargain table of old software titles at WalMart. I loved the game but when I go to play it, it locks up on the part where you jump down the shaft and have to use your anti gravity belt. I had an old 486SX33Mhz machine and the tech support guys thought that it might be because I didn't have a coprocessor. I now have a Pentium 100Mhz system with 16MB of memory and it still locks up. I don't know if you know of any where I can find a solution but I thought it was worth a try since I didn't find any other email addresses on Delphines page Answer : The coprocessor is not needed. When the game lock at this place, it means you have not enough conventional memory available. You must have more than 570 KB of conventional memory to play with sounds enabled (520 Kb should be sufficient without sounds). (It seems that the CD version needs even mode memory .) To free up conventional memory, try to put DOS in upper memory (with HIMEM.SYS and DOS=HIGH in the config.sys file) and/or try to put DOS drivers in upper memory (using HIMEM.SYS, EMM386.EXE, DOS=HIGH,UMB and DEVICEHIGH=... or LH ...). Another simple method is formatting a floppy disk to boot on it (format a: /s). |
